I was just re-reading the introduction in my Audubon Society's Field Guide to the Night Sky, and it basically says that we're the poop of the Universe. Ok, well, they don't exactly put it in those terms, but I find it makes me laugh when I look at it this way...and I like laughing. Here's their real quote from the introduction...
"Most of the material in the Universe is hydrogen gas; much of the remainder is helium gas, while only a minute portion takes the form of elements heavier than helium. Thus, the material out of which we and all other objects in the Universe are made (carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, and so on) is literally cosmic debris."
...And...Frank Zappa wrote a song about that...go Frank Go!.... : )

Re: Cosmic Debris
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 3:47 PMBefore today, I have never ever ever heard Frank Zappa's anything. Yep, that's true. Not even ever. I was raised on Megadeth, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne (past '83), Deicide, Sepultura, Brutal Truth, Accept, Scorpions, Death, Kreator, Def Leppard, White Snake, Malevolent Creation, Bathory... Quite a bit of Scandinavia, in general, (for the latter, those who know what I'm talking about will, well, know what I'm talking about) :), etc...
Obviously, I did know about him (Frank Zappa) - his name (and the toilet pic., of course), but, that's about it. This was my first ever acquaintance with him, ... and it was the Cosmic Debris.
Thank You, Father.
(P.S. No, I am not from the Nord. :) Though, in a way, part of my ancestry lies with them, ce-e-enturies ago)

Re: Cosmic Debris
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 7:33 PMYeah, Zappa was one wicked guitar player. I had the good fortune of experiencing two of his concerts at the Music Hall in Cleveland in the late 1970's. Both were small events by today's standards, with about 1,000 people in the audience. He had the audience in his hands and mesmerized...master showman, as it were. Anyway, glad you enjoyed...hope nobody minds the off-topic post...back to your regular scheduled program....
